Balthazar Batigelli’s joy was burned. At just six years old Balthazar accidentally set his parents’ Battigelli-Morelli family restaurant ablaze. Occurring during a joint-family feast, only his parents were killed in the inferno. Despite their vast wealth as a result of their successful restaurant, the family’s fortune appeared to have been reduced to ash as well. Balthazar was a poor orphan, abandoned by his remaining family and cast out as a pariah for his fatal deeds.

Life’s only favor to Balthazar was keeping him alive that fateful night, for every day of the 36 years since the incident, he has found nothing but misery. Desperately wishing to rebuild his parents’ business as a compensatory gesture, he penny-pinched his way to the Bullfrog Culinary institute. It wasn’t long, however, before he was kicked out due to defaulted payments, finding himself working at a mortuary to get by ever since.

Then came the letter. Balthazar receives an invitation from his dying Uncle Bruno to visit his withered mansion upon Mortis Peak. It is there he wishes to make a deathbed confession to his pathetic, downtrodden nephew. Through Bruno Balthazar learns his maternal and paternal extended family colluded to kill his parents, siphon his vast inheritance, and lead him to believe it was he who caused their death.

With his dying breath his Uncle promises him three gifts, as a sign of penance. One, what remains of his portion of the inheritance he took from Balthazar. Two, his manor. And three, the list of every family member involved in the intra-family fortune heist and murder.

Consumed by a fog of confusion, only one thing was clear to Balthazar. A reunion was in order. With a renewed desire to pursue new culinary heights Balthazar has decided to host a family dinner at Mortis Manor. For it will be the seasoned flesh of his sordid family that will satiate the void they left behind with their greed and wrath.
